NEW EMPIRE THEATRE. This theatre is situated in Coventry street, and for many years was known as the Lyceum. It is now under entirely new management, and will be reopened to the public to-night, when a thoroughly up-to-date programme, comprising the latest moving pictures, which will include a Charlie Chaplin film. “Dough and Dynamite,” “Winning the Futurity,” “Too Much Burglar,” “Girl at Lone Point,” and “Jealousy.” A first-class orchestra has been engaged, and the prices of admission has been fixed at 1/- and 6d.

Recognising the necessity of bringing the theatre right up to date, the management has expended 11,520 in renovating the interior and exterior. The interior has been re-decorated, and now presents a pleasing appearance. All the panels have been painted in floral design, and the ceiling similarly treated. The old-time forms have been replaced by “tip” seats, and electric light fittings have been installed right throughout the building. These improvements, together with a new screen and dynamo, which will ensure steadiness and brilliancy in the pictures, should make the Empire one of the most popular places of amusement in the city.

NEW EMPIRE THEATRE later to become The Regal Theatre.
