It appears from this Kinematograph Weekly report, that the sound installation was initially a Filmophone. That was sound on disc apparatus which was coupled in some manner to the existing projectors. Filmophone Ltd had, at the time of the report, just got started with installations. Their subsidiary company, Filmophone Felexible Records Ltd, brought celluloid-like 10-inch 78s to the retail market at the end of 1930. Filmophone Ltd thought that 16-inch flexibles could displace the breakable 16-inch shellacs of the sound on disc system, but sound on film came along and swept that, and the Filmophone business, away.
