I used to come here a lot with my parents in 1995 and 1996, when they showed some of the most memorable Bollywood films I’ve ever seen, including “Bombay,” “Hum Aapke Hain Koun,” and the famous classic “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.”

This was a very quaint and relaxing place, with a waiting area downstairs, but the restrooms had a very narrow stairway. Still, it’s always a pleasure whenever I’m in the area and I walk by. :)

I used to come here a lot with my parents back in 1993-1996 when they used to show the Bollywood films in that big auditorium upstairs.

There were several Bollywood theaters that came and went during that decade, but this was my personal favorite, especially with so many big blockbusters drawing sold-out audiences.

There were times when the Bollywood audience was much larger than the Hollywood audiences in the other six theaters combined.

I really enjoyed seeing all the posters they had in the hallway and I especially enjoyed their nachos with cheese dip…..mmmmm.

I used to visit this theater a lot with my parents back in 1992 and 1993.

We used to see a lot of Bollywood films here and, while the movies themselves were not particularly memorable, the theater was a very peaceful place to sit back and relax.

I do remember seeing posters on the walls for various art house films, including “Howard’s End” and “A River Runs Through It,” but I don’t recall them actually playing here.

I used to spend many Saturday evenings with my parents at this theater from December 1990 to December 1991.

At that time, it was known as the Jodha Community Cinemas, named after the manager, Ram Jodha, and we saw a lot of memorable Bollywood films, along with a few Hollywood films, as well.

Despite so much crime taking place in that area and in the rest of the city, this theater really was a magical escape to heaven.

There was one blue theater #1 and a golden-brown theater #2. We stopped visiting because the heating system was not working, but I still enjoy watching some of those movies at home, even after all these years.

At that time, we used to live in Flushing, so it was always an exciting drive to this theater. Now, I live up the road in Queens Village, but the present-day church just doesn’t have the same charm that I always remembered and that is very unfortunate. :(

Several questions: 1) Does anyone recall what were painted on this side??? I only remember Jaws and The Thing.

2) Does anyone have complete color photos of the murals???

3) In 1989, I saw “The Wizard” here, but it was delayed because of “computer problems”??? The projector was connected to a computer??? How long was the delay??? That was surreal.

I used to go to this theater when I was a child. They showed a lot of animated features, including many Disney classics.

Of course, what made the place so memorable was the painting outside and I still remember all the celebrities. Naively, I thought it would stay there forever, so I never took any photos. If anyone has color photos of it, that would be great.
