I would love to help out with the restoration of the theater by having a benefit reading of a play with some celebrities I have a connection to please email asap at
I hear everyone talking about everything besides what the real concern here is with regards to saving the Kings. I agree with the idea that the kings should be used for a Performing Arts Center. It would really revitalize the area. If you all can get the ball rolling to get to a capital campaign stage I can get some celebrities who may want to do a dramatic reading for the theater but you have a long way to go.

You know it’s a shame that NY doesn’t treasure it’s historic theaters at all. I remember going to this theater in the early 80’s-90’s when it was still part of the RKO century chain. I can frankly say they keep it in good shape and intact. Cineplex Odeon has a reputation for trashing these glorious movie houses. I remember seeing Clue, Cocoon, Karate Kid II, Nightmare on Elmstreet III,IV, and V. She will be missed.
I’m sorry I never had the opportunity to get involved with the foundational restoration efforts of the glorious St. George. Congratulations on your great efforts. You truly have a Jewel in the St. George. Are you familiar with a play called Love Letters by AR Gurney? This would be an excellent play for a fundraising event should you ever have one. I should know i’m producing it for a theater restoration effort in Charlotte, NC. It is a very simple play to put together since it is just read by 2 celebrities and all you really need is a desk and two chairs.
The play has proven to be a favorite among benefit organizers worldwide because of it’s simplicity. If you need additional info please feel free to email me at
I can’t tell you how I sympathize and fully support the carolina theater preservation society’s mission. As a North Carolina native who now resides in NY I have seen many landmark and first run theaters close without any type of community support or protest. The fact is is that people in NY feel they’re fighting a losing battle when they wage a war against these corporations to keep these theaters open. What they fail to realize is that they’re losing a piece of americana when they let these theaters fall to closure, abandonment, and deterioration. I stand behind CTPS and vow to support them in whatever way I can to see this theater restored to it’s grandeur in my home state of NC. Be it fundraising events, donations, or whatever charity starts at home and then spreads abroad.

Does anyone know who runs the Capri? I would love to find out who is in charge of rentals there.
