A young kid around twenty years old was running from the cops and started the fire while hiding out from them. It was a suicide. His mother used to be our landlady.
I liked the upstairs theater that was a balcony. Wish we still had these! I saw Turner & Hooch, Soul Man, and many others here. Avanti’s was next door which is now across the street.
This is the wrong photo! Fresh Market is there now which replaced Circuit City. There was also a Book Emporium there years ago. Now we have Five Guys Burgers, Sushi Gawa, Toys R Us, Biaggi’s, Plato’s Closet and many more stores that opened up. I loved this theater! I remember when Home Alone played there on Thanksgiving and I didn’t get in – stood in line only to be turned away. Later it opened up as a dollar theater showing long run movies.
I was thinking this was on University down by McClure, but maybe I’m wrong. Last movie I saw there was Silence of the Lambs. I remember being a child and my mom taking me to see Disney movies there (Bambi, Freaky Friday, and Snow White come to mind).
One of the last ones I saw there was Dead Man Walking, but not sure it was the last. I like how you can tell from the outside where the cinema was – you paid for your tickets outside at a window.

I wish it was like this again down there.
I think they need to have a finished photo since it’s now open! LOL!!!
What’s there now? I cannot imagine a drive in on Glen.
Should have remained independent.

I saw Footloose, Hoosiers and Three Amigos there when I was a teenager. Loved that place!!
