Where i used to hang out during the weekends in the early 80s. Remember watching the silly Police Academy films here as well as Flashdance. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to watch Annie Hall here. This cinema reminds me of the hot, steaming noodles available right at its doorsteps as well as the hustle and bustle of Petaling Street.
This is where i watched Shaw Brothers kung fu and wuxia movies. Ti Lung, David Chiang, Alexander Fu Sheng and co. kicking butts. I always remember this cinema as rather sombre and dark eventhough it was located at a very busy main street in Ipoh. Must be due to the close proximity of those Chinese funeral houses.
Remember watching cheap matinees during the school holidays in the 70s. Situated next to the Oriental Cinema and of course the Jubilee Park where all the pinball machines are. Enjoyed watching some of the best midnight showings of Hindi and Malay movies with my school buddies in this cinema. Those were the good old days!
One of my favourite cinemas during my school days in Ipoh in the early 1970s. Third class tickets cost only 65 sen and you’ll end up with stiff necks looking up at the screen. Remember watching James Bond as well as other English movies in the 70’s.
A decent cinema with good ambience. Must revisit this cinema when i go back to Ipoh for old times sakes.
