Opened in 1957, the once popular Lido Theatre is located along the street from the Cathay Theatre. Not only is the theatre in close proximity to the Cathay Theatre, but its front row of windows for the upstairs lobby are nearly identical to its neighbor’s.
After a glorious run of almost 45 years, the Lido Theatre closed on May 31, 2001.

I have some old photos of Lido during the early 1960’s. Would like to share them. I can be reach at
One of my favourite cinemas during my school days in Ipoh in the early 1970s. Third class tickets cost only 65 sen and you’ll end up with stiff necks looking up at the screen. Remember watching James Bond as well as other English movies in the 70’s.
A decent cinema with good ambience. Must revisit this cinema when i go back to Ipoh for old times sakes.
Hi Keropok
Good to know that there are still plenty of us around who remember those good old days when going to the cinema was an exciting event. I loved to buy the titbits and snacks sold by the hawkers. Ah…the good old days.
The Lido is on this list of defunct Malaysian cinemas:
