When the Twin Air was open, the entrance was off of Navy Blvd.Shadowlawn ran sort of adjacent to the exit at the southeast corner. The exit had those one-way spiky things you had to drive over.I think the pond you’re talking about was more northeast than due north…and was on the grounds of the clay mining operation next door. The drive-in was definitely not in the lake.

Used to see ‘midnight movies’ here back in the early 80s.There was this one weird, creepy guy that I always saw there.

I’m pretty sure that it was the Rex…that the Florida was two blocks north of…with the Saenger being further south a bit on the same side of the street.

I am sketchy on details…I think the Ritz as an African American Theatre was closed by the early 60’s. It was disused for a while until some enterprising guy got a lease on it and opened it up just to show-‘I Am Curious Yellow’…which ran for months until it was replaced with-‘I Am Curious Blue’.

My earliest memory of going to the Showtown was 1977- saw Cinderella 2000.I had a friend at the time named Jay…his sister was married to the manager and I remember he had done some editing to the movie because he was afraid it was too dirty and he’d get busted. In the early 80’s they had a showing of that old chestnut-‘Poor White Trash’ on a double feature with ‘Poor White Trash 2’,I think…using the same ad campaign I had been seein since I was a little kid!–‘due to the controversial nature of the film…uniformed police will be on hand to supervise admissions’.Well there were no police, but there was a line about a mile long! They packed the joint!

My parents lived about a quarter mile from the Twin Air…so I used to sneak in through the woods or hop the fence from Camelot Apartments…from about age 12…1973…till I was old enough to drive. It was destroyed by Hurricane Frederick in September 12,1979.

The Ranch was notable in the mid-seventies for showing mostly R-rated ‘skin flick'double features. It had a giant, neon cowboy on a bucking bronco sign on the back of the screen-which was facing Pace Blvd. The google map and photo here are not correct…the theater was on the right,as you are going north, almost to Fairfield Drive…near what was the Sandy’s hamburger joint. I’m sure it was still open till at least the end of 1977,or early 1978…because I saw the Incredible Melting Man there..twice!
