Dominion Cinema Hounslow

Photograph of Dominion theatre Architect Frank Ernest Bromige, who was responsible for a total of 16 theatres, six of which were named Dominion, Hounslow was to be his second cinema opening on Monday 28th December 1931 bringing a truly Art Deco style which Bromige was to follow with all his future cinema designs. Construction and internal decorations by George Lilley Ltd of Harrow. Hamptons Ltd of Pall Mall London were responsible for carpeting and seating. WalturdaW Cinema Supply Co. Ltd., of Gerrard Street London supplied and fitted Ernemann projection. Lighting installation Ward Electrical Co., Wardour |Street London.

As the 1930’s progressed so did Bromige’s designs culminating with his largest the 2,500 seat Dominion Theatre Harrow, with its large stage 29ft in depth and twelve dressing rooms. Associated British Cinemas acquired the Dominion in February 1936. In the early 1960’s the entire façade was covered using a metal cladding, where it remained hidden for the next 60 years thereby not only protecting but hiding Bromige’s outstanding Art Deco design. Now recently restored and given well deserved Grade II listing.
