In between the Pawn Now and what used to be a Kmart, there is a strip of land that I believe was the driveway for the Big Sky. I always remember seeing the sign for the Kmart when I saw movies there. In the 80’s, they were showing rock movies. I remember seeing “Song Remains the Same” there.
The Acres/Peso Drive-ins were on that industrial park. I believe the screens for both were in the middle, back to back. The Reynolds Aluminum plant was across the street.
This is the place where I remember seeing the 1976 movies, “Hindenburg”, “Midway” and in 1979, “Alien”. One thing I remember about watching movies there was hearing the trains running on the rail line a half mile north of the Nu View.
If you look at the semi-trapezoidal empty lot between 59th ave and 57th ave, along Missouri, not the large rectangular one to the east, you can see the outline of the parking area of the Thunderbird Drive In. I can see the two driveways and in between is where the screen was. I remember there was a lot of turquoise paint used there. Just to the east of the screen, you can see the concentric arcs that was the parking area.
