The address is 49 Village Rd. Western Blvd runs along next to it but it fronts to village road. I passed this former cinema today. It is currently a church.
I passed this theater last night on my way to “Mayfaire Town Center Cinema 16” and noticed that the outdoor movie poster display cases were on. Empty but on. Odd sight.
raysson, this theater closed late 2002. She made it into the 21 century, but not by much. I will try and find my newspaper article that describes the closing of this theater and the sale to UNCW
Ive been looking around trying to find out if this was a common 6plex style for Litchfield theaters. Does anyone know of another theater that looks like this? It seems to me like its kind of an odd style. Auditoriums in one building connected to the games/concession building by a hallway. Why were the building spaced out? No windows or doors or any obvious reason I can see.
I just came across a news paper article for another local theater and in the article dated January 5, 1988 it mensioned the college road cinemas being “owned by United Artist Theaters after buying out Litchfield Theaters last year”. Litchfield theaters sold this theater sometime in 1987.
yeah i wanted to look around also. I would have possibly gotten some inside pics before demolition but there is always a UNCW cop in the parking lot. I actually got chased off the property one day while taking photos haha. I go by everyday to take pictures of the demo. It looks like they stripped the auditoriums bare…..no evidence of curtains in the rubble just cinderblock walls and the ceiling grid for the acoustic tiles….
NOTE: I live 3 miles from this theater and have been a regular since its opening in 2004. MAYFAIRE 16 has ALWAYS had 16 screens. I have no idea where 12 came from. Thank you for updating!

After the Hollywood East Cinema Grill closed the interior was renovated and now the former theater is home for medical offices.
Yes we have a Carmike 16 in Wilmington.
