i looked into this place a while back. the rent was so high. i would love to see it re-opened rather than sitting around or becoming some ugly storefront.
i’ve found a closed cinema – the equipment is still there but the projectors are kind of old. The seats are all there and in good shape, concession is there too with a popcorn maker it looks like. Don’t know how good it is. It’s a good location but the lease seems expensive. There are all sorts of costs that I don’t know about.
Don’t know what steps to take next but making a business plan would be a good start but I don’t really know how. Or how to get that kind of money – business loans I suppose.
Malverne is ok but it would be better to have some variety in ownership. Oceanside was run poorly. Malverne would be competing with itself if it had another theatre to run independent films.
could u send me a list of the various costs and things to take into consideration. still very new to the whole thing but would love to be able to throw a business plan together. never have attempted anything like this before – need to know my next step. :) thanks
yeah everything is there. i think the projectors are a bit older. the seats are in good condition. one screen has a rip in it that should be repaired or replaced with a new one. concession is there.
I wonder if this will open anytime soon. It’s almost been a year now. I’ve toyed with the notion of looking into it myself. But I really know very little about theatre management, costs, etc.
Does anyone here know something about what goes into a venture like this? I know I would have to lease the theatre and pay taxes, etc. What other costs are there? I don’t know the process of renting a 35mm film or how that works? Or if you need a lisense to even show movies.
It looks like it’s going to be knocked down very soon and built over. Maybe one of these Long Island Theatres can re-open before it’s too late. I’ve been toying with the prospect myself but do not know enough about theatre management, costs and all that jazz.

thanks!
do you know why it closed?
i’ve been wondering this same thing. what are the costs? how does one rent a 35mm for showing and what does that cost? license? etc etc?
is this place still standing? what’s become of it?
still standing? what has become of this place?
does this place exist or has it too become a dollar store?
what’s up with this theatre now?
any decent theatres left on Long Island run independantly? What about closed ones that are just ripe to be re-opened?
I’ve been looking hard.
