The owners were able to acquire two used, affordable digital projectors late last summer. With little competition and the insane popularity, my hometown theatre isn’t going anywhere.
@telliott No, just over saturation. The Phoenix Big Cinemas 20, formerly Destinta, is about two miles away in a better location. There is nothing in the general vicinity of the old theatre.
Nessa, so you’re the one I was bidding against! Email me & we can talk:
Won a Lot of speakers & a Lot of marquee letters. $442.75. Bittersweet but I own a bit of my hometown.
New owners are auctioning off the drive-in piece by piece in March 2023. 75 years of history being sold off in three weeks…

When I went home for Thanksgiving, the marquee had a message along the lines of “See You In The Spring”. No pic unfortunately.
Closing at the end of business Monday September 5th. https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/pittsburgh/news/another-pittsburgh-movie-theater-is-closing/
The married owners died of COVID-19 in October 2021 a week apart. The drive-in is closed until further notice. I doubt it reopens.
Closed for good July 18th, per mall security. Took pics.
Permanently closed, per Regal’s website. According to local media, Regal was being sued for $300k in back rent.
Never renovated nor repaired in 23 years of operation. More expensive than some newer & nicer theaters closer to Pittsburgh. Good riddance!
Dying mall in a lower middle class area plus shrinking movie-going audience overall plus expiring lease. Damn shame. Beautiful place to see a movie.
The theatre has been demolished within the past month.
This theatre has been torn down within the past two months.
Stopped by this place while my wife took pre-wedding pictures. Took a few pics & uploaded them here.

@muviebuf The old theatre building shares a parking lot with a WalMart. A true two-headed monster took down the Greater Pittsburgh Drive-In.
The street view above is wrong. Photo needs to be about a mile to the south. Grew up about two miles from there. Wonderful place to watch a movie.
Demolished about a year ago. Now the site of a Sheetz, a regional convenience gas station, a hotel & a small strip mall.
