Wasn’t that the same area jc penny’s was at where the orginal Dawn of the dead was filmed

You are correct. This theater was built exactly where that J.C. Penny was. Luckily I went there a few years back to snap some photos of all the scenes shown in the Dawn Of The Dead film.
