              <p>Nashville Fire Department firefighter Marlon Claiborne inspects the still smoldering ruins of the 1,200-seat auditorium of the 80-year-old Loew’s Vendome Theater Aug. 9, 1967. The theater was gutted and the roof caved in by flames that raged out of control from about 2 a.m. until 5 a.m.</p>

              <p>Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf? Would you believe Metro Police Sgt. Fred Cobb? The July 18, 1966, edition of The Tennessean describes an incident during a showing of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolff?” the previous night at Crescent Cinerama. Sgt. Cobb stopped the film midway through, confiscated a film reel and arrested the theater’s manager. That started a week of events for the controversial film.</p>
