Here’s a scene from the war effort in Austin: a photograph from our John P. Crowe Photography Collection showing women selling war bonds at the Paramount Theater. The theater’s manager at the time, Louis Novy, was cited by the U.S. Treasury War Finance Committee with a war finance silver medal for selling so many bonds. The theater also showed army recruiting films during the war. This photograph is currently on display in our Holt Gallery as part of our exhibit “Austin’s Majestic Palace: The Paramount Turns 100.” Image ID AR.2014.035(661).
