Tragically, the Laurier Palace became one of the most studied theaters by builders following the horrible fire that took so many young lives in 1927. One of the two main culprits in the fire trap is shown here. A steep, rail-less stairwell from the balcony was 47 inches shown at right but narrowed to a narrow 37 inches at far left with a pesky door trapping many patrons.
