Plaza Theatre
Plaza Theatre #1 opened on August 11, 1933 (in the former Winter Garden Hall turned Winter Garden Theatre) with the Marx Brothers in “Horse Feathers.” It would burn down on January 27, 1946 leading the Plaza to relocated in the Mystic Theatre.
Plaza Theatre #2 would be condemned on February 8, 1950 when a mine cave-in threatened a large swath of the city. It would burn down on June 22, 1950.
Plaza Theatre #3 would open on July 12, 1950 a block away on the opposite side of the street before closing in 1955. It would be knocked down the way a theatre should go - not because of fire but because the entire town was deemed to be a toxic wasteland.
