Avalon Theatre 52 - 54 Melville Street, Hobart, TAS - Dark Mofo spectacular performance 2018

Dark Mofo is the winter version of the MONA FOMA festival, also held in Tasmania. With many of its events taking place at night, it celebrates the darkness of the southern winter solstice and features many musical acts, large scale light installations and a winter feast.

Comment - The building was originally constructed in a classical design. It was said that it was so well constructed that the acoustic properties of the hall were fully free of any echo. A great achievement for its time. The hall was ultimately used to present musical concerts and touring vaudeville shows.

Ultimately it was to become the Avalon Theatre for the purpose of screening Motion Pictures. Today the heritage details are intact and the cathedral ceilings are impressive. In the Dark MoFo photo from 2018 (on this page) you can see the classic lines of the proscenium surround. In a word spectacular - A moment that most likely will never be repeated. BRAVO !
