Ascher’s Palace Theatre Grand Chandelier

A high resolution close-up of the Palaces tent and basket style French Empire chandelier which was reportedly fourteen feet long by nine feet in diameter. Made of several hundred Austrian crystal rope strands strung over a steel sub structure and frame. It was lit by almost two hundred incandescent bulbs in white, red, blue and yellow for different, dimmable lighting effects. The whole fixture weighed in at a little over a ton, hung from a heavy gauge steel cable attached to a winch mechanism in the attic. The current whereabouts are unknown but it is known to have survived well into the 1960’s! A near twin of this magnificent fixture lives at a similarly aged palace, the Byrd theater in Wilmington Delaware.
