The Tex Theatre was opened on March 22, 1946 with exploitation features and separate white and African-American screenings of the feature film “White Girls From Hell” (aka “Curse of the Ubangi”). The theatre was a converted retail space, formerly a welding shop, and was owned by V.E. Hamm of Wichtia Falls. The theatre was said to be ‘modern in every way’. But the entertainment fare was third-tier and often exploitation fare.
