Announced in 1910 and shrouded in legal issues and an almost incredible three ownership changes prior to its launch, J. Fred Zimmerman opened the long-delayed Orpheum with vaudeville on October 6, 1913. Almost immediately, he changed the policy of the venue as it would careen toward a profitable motion picture policy during its first decade of operation.
