The circular stadium-shaped cinema began as what was going to be a chain of sports-themed restaurants called Big Leaguer(s). Here is a 1969 ad with Rocky Marciano as the guest of honor on one selected day. The concept fizzled and the venue was transformed into a cinematic treasure of sorts.
