Victory Theatre
In early 1932 the sound system was upgraded to Type ‘J-1’ RCA Photophone. In May 1933 (colorized photo shown) Betts scored a victory over the nearby Katoomba Empire with an exclusive presentation of the top film of the year - Noel Coward’s “Cavalcade”. (B M Amusements had refused to pay the high rental demanded by the distributor.) Betts departed both Leura and Blackheath in mid-1934.
