Morley Street Picture House, 1954

A 1954 view of Morley Street, with the Picture House indicated by the unsubtle “Cinema” sign. You can just make out how the two towers on the entrance were finished off with mini domes. The shop units are all single storey. The auditorium rake ran with the slope of Morley Street. Great Horton Road is parallel on the other side of the buildings. The Picture House had a far plainer entrance on that road.

According to the Kinematograph Year Book for 1954 (the year of the photo above), seat prices ranged from 1/6 to 2/6. No seating capacity was given, though the KYB for 1947 quoted 1,080 seats.
