Novel Theatre Plan Popular - Church in the cinema ??

MANAGER R. A. Yelland of Guildford’s Regent Theatre, who combined church and cinema some months ago, has high hopes for the future of his scheme. Mr. Yelland invited three clergymen to speak at the theatre during Friday night sessions.

“I feel that the experiment was quite successful,” he said, “and I have had letters of appreciation from members of audiences. "The ministers were also impressed. One of them has asked when he would be able to address the theatre audience again.”

The three experimental nights must have fully test ed the worth of the scheme, said Mr. Yelland. On Friday nights the audience was a fair cross-section. And no one complained. So far the idea was in the experimental stage, but he hoped his theatre and others would develop the scheme in 1954.
