The 'Cinema' Sevenoaks
Above a photograph taken several weeks after opening, the front elevation was finished using Portland stone facings. The canopy above main entrance advertises the film screening which was ‘Sanders of the River’ starring Paul Robeson. The dominating feature being the seven tall windows fronting the large restaurant over which the horizontal name CINEMA cut into the stone and finished with masks of Comedy and Tragedy in a Greek style mounted either end. A Portland stone hood moulding conceals neon lighting which illuminated the whole area below. At street level are two shops yet to be let either side of the main entrance.
