Regal Cinema Barnstable
Cinderella was the first Christmas pantomime after the War in 1948. Staged by Reginald Lever who continued with pantomimes at the Regal until he retired. Lever produced many pantomimes around the South Coast during the late 1940’s and 1950’s. Although on tight budgets small cinemas were ideal and normally booked out during these times of austerity, at the peak Lever had over twenty pantomimes on the go until the end of January, some touring for a week at a time with the get out during Saturday night after the last performance and the get in at the next cinema on Sunday ready for Monday lunch time when the cast arrived from the previous venue. Good job for Leichner stage make-up to cover those tired faces.
