Baby Edythe Straw was a popular Australian child performer in the late 1920s, billed as a “juvenile entertainer”.
Born around 1921 as the daughter of Mr Chas. Straw of Perth, she was widely celebrated for her versatility on the vaudeville and cinema stages from a very young age.
She was most notably recognised as The “Youngest Xylophonist in the World”: This was her primary claim to fame, often performing complex xylophone solos as part of her act. Her stage shows typically featured a mix of singing, dancing (including step dancing), and instrumental music.
While she began her career in Western Australia at venues like the Luxor Theatre in Perth and Royal Pictures in Collie, she eventually embarked on an extensive Eastern States' circuit in late 1928.
