Hoyts Granville Parramatta Road and Good Street, Sydney, NSW
“A prime corner of Parramatta Road (then called Sydney Road) and Good Street was purchased by Granville Council member A.J. Beszant in 1921 and transferred to the Granville Cinema on December 12th, 1923. Mr. Beszant was a prominent figure in the theatre business of Sydney’s western suburbs and built many of the area’s best cinemas.
The Granville Cinema opened with an invitational screening on April 29th, 1924. It became part of the Western Suburbs Cinemas company in March 1930 and when that company was merged into Hoyts, became the Hoyts Granville.
The theatre was closed in February 1962 with Danny Kaye in “On the Double”. It went over to use as a warehouse. It was still in that use in the early-1980’s, but was later demolished.“ - Photo and information credit: John
