“The Big Show of 1960” at the Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth ran from Thursday, June 30, to Saturday, July 19, 1960.This variety summer season production was brought to the stage by the prominent theatrical promoter Harold Fielding.

The star-studded bill featured a diverse mix of British comedy, early rock ‘n’ roll, variety acts, and spectacular stage effects:Dora Bryan: The beloved British comedy and musical theatre actress headlined the show as one of the main stars.

Dora May Broadbent (7 February 1923 – 23 July 2014), known as Dora Bryan, was an English actress of stage, film and television. She won the BAFTA Award for Best British Actress for A Taste of Honey (1961) and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1995 for The Birthday Party.

Marty Wilde: The iconic English rock ‘n’ roll singer provided the musical star power for the younger generation.

Al Read: The highly popular radio and variety comedian delivered the stand-up comedy portions of the evening.Waltzing Waters: A massive, spectacular water-feature installed right onto the Pavilion stage that danced to music and lights.
