Architect John Owen Bond was engaged by ‘Lou Morris Cinema Chain’ to carry out major alterations and enlargement to the Carlton cinema, complete with 1,950 seats, new Restaurant/Cafe and Compton organ. Lou Morris like Shipman & King and many independent cinema owners preferred to engage architects and sub-contractors they had previously employed and trusted to give value, also lowering costs involved in their investment. Lou Morris was also to engage Bond on building three other cinemas during 1937 the peak year of cinema construction, with the architectural decorators Mollo & Egan, they were Gaumont Watford, Majestic Bridgnorth and Odeon North Watford.
