When construction of the nearby State Theatre was officially announced in December 1935, it was originally planned to open as the Rio Theatre which also includes a photo sketch of the then-proposed Rio in front of two editions of the Ely Miner newspaper (shown here), but that name was eventually changed before opening, and officially opened as the State Theatre on October 11, 1936.
