An historic Invitation to Wodonga’s first civic ball held at the Shire Hall Wodonga 28th july 1950 - According to records at this time the Melba Theatre was already operating from this address.
Wodonga’s first Civic Ball was a landmark community event held at the Wodonga Shire Hall on Friday, 28 July 1950. The Shire Hall, which stood on the corner of High Street and Elgin Street, was the premier community and entertainment hub for the district at the time. It regularly hosted local milestones, and formal gatherings before its eventual demolition in 1971 to make way for a modern commercial development.
The 1950 Civic Ball remains a significant highlight in the regional postwar social record preserved by local historians, marking an era of growing regional identity and community celebration.
