St. James Theatre
The Old Vic Company opened in Sydney on 28 September 1961 across Castlereagh Street at the Theatre Royal. Director with the Company Robert Helpmann appeared on stage at the St James the night before, introducing one of his performers who appeared in the film having a Gala Charity Performance that night - launching yet another return season. “Gone With The Wind” had to be taken off after ten weeks to make way for “King of Kings” opening for Xmas at the St James, but was moved over to the Metro Kings Cross to continue its return run.
