Southland Cinemas 5
One of five theaters having a grand opening for the General Cinema Corp. circuit on Dec. 27, 1967 was the General Cinema Southland Square Cinema I & II. This was theater 151 for GCC overall and third in the Bay area (along with the Hillsdale in San Mateo and the Sun Valley in Concord). William Roseman was the architect and theatre I had 1,270 with II holding 845. Obviously, the theater would become a five-plex to better compete in the multiplex era and would be shuttered as the theatre struggled within the multiplex era.
