The Wilshire on opening day. Most theaters viewed the onset of television as a threat; at the Wilshire, it was featured in the lobby on the theater’s opening day Oct. 4, 1946 while playing its first feature to the public, “Rendezvous with Annie.“ And the theater was right: the Wilshire wasn’t really impacted by television in 32-year run with profits recorded each year for Interstate Circuit right up to its closure in April of 1978.
