Regal Great Northern Mall 10

As of November 20, Great Northern Mall has closed permanently in preparation of its sale to a local developer that plans on turning the site into a lifestyle center that would demolish a significant portion of the existing mall. There is plans to have a movie theatre as part of the new development, however currently there is no indication as to whether that would involve retaining the existing theatre or constructing a new one. The theatre is positioned where it could be detached from the existing structure, and there wasn’t at the time of its closure anything structurally wrong with it (other than the roof likely needing to be replaced). However, the original 6 auditoriums (1-4, 9, 10) have received no significant upgrades since they opened in 1988 and the Hoyts 4 (5-8) are still as they were when they opened in 1997.

Cineworld has elected to permanently close this theatre (the theatre’s box office is empty, the lobby has been cleared of all equipment, all interior and exterior signage has been removed, and the theatre has been removed from Regal’s locator and Fandango). The status of this theatre should be changed to Closed (as this closure is permanent not temporary) and its final day of operation was March 15 (the day the NY Pause order implemented the originally temporary closure).
