The $24,900 price appears rather low for a movie theatre or any commercial building for that matter. Are there any people in this town that would attend a movie theatre?
That’s a giveaway price, how small is this town?
Wheaton is a lot bigger town then Dumont!! Wheaton is a very nice town with people who care about their town and take care of the memories. For you that say “that is a give away price” and “are there any people in this town to attend the movie” must have nothing to do but complain. We need to thank those who did buy the theater for they are giving this town and the people such wonderful memories. Maybe those of you should also go and see this theater and see for yourself what a great place it is and the town. Also, when this theater opened again, there has been lines of people waiting to get in. So, don’t say things about price and “if” there are any people, because if you have not been there, you know nothing!!!!!
Here is a 1983 photo of the Gopher:

I found out over the Winter that The Gopher Theatre unfortunately closed and is for sale again, and unless it sold recently it’s likely still for sale. I grew up in Wheaton so I’m very familiar with the town, and I actually worked at this theater for a couple years in H.S. (best job ever!) – this is a small town with not many options for “shopping”, therefore many folks travel to nearby towns such as Wahpeton/Breckenridge, Fergus Falls, even Alexandria for movies, shopping, etc. – that doesn’t mean that someone ambitious with the $$ to invest couldn’t make this theater work, and it’s a really GREAT old theatre (mostly original) not many like this around- I hope someone buys & opens it!
The Gopher has just been purchased (Oct. 2011) and is going to be cleaned up and opened. We can’t let these treasures go! :)
