Craig Bara and Lyle Crist’s book Alliance says that the Morrison Theatre opened on September 1, 1927.

The Morrison Theatre is not among the six houses listed at Alliance in the 1927 FDY (Columbia, Ideal, American, Ohio, Star, and State) but it is mentioned in the November 5, 1927 issue of Moving Picture World, in which it is referred to as the new Morrison Theatre.

I recently acquired an original lobby card from the Morrison of a Jack Benny movie from 1941. I had no idea at the time I bought it that the Morrison was a theater in Alliance. I bought another one which was printed in Cleveland for the Mount Union Theater. I figured I’d better try to preserve a little something of the wonderful old gem. Too bad the college couldn’t stand to hold out a little longer before doing away with the building being used as a theater. At least they haven’t turned it into a parking lot for white vans…yet.

There were other theatres in the Town of Alliance in 1950.

Columbia Theatre, 436 E. Columbia Street 782 seats
Mt. Union Theatre, 1745 S. Union Avenue 932 seats
Strand Theatre, 239 E. Main Street 632 seats

Having recently visited Alliance Ohio these above theatres including the Morrison are gone, except for the art deco Mt. Union Theatre which still remains and is near the college.

Alliance Ohio is a college town and should have a single screen theatre! I wonder if the former theatre location is now another parking lot?
