R/C Theatres closed the Plantation in style on October 29, 1982 with a triple nurse feature of Ashley Porter in “The Young Nurses,” Xenia Grass in “The Student Nurses,” and Pegi Boucher in “Private Duty Nurses.”
The drive-in was demolished by 1982. The property sat empty and eventually became overgrown with trees while retaining the outline and ramps of the drive-in up to 2007.
By 2008, a road was cut and today a Tractor Supply sits on the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining.
It appears that the Plantation Drive-In opened on September 9, 1949 with Errol Flynn in “The Adventures Of Robin Hood” along with a few shorts. The drive-in closed at the end of the 1978 season and was last operated by R/C Theatres.
Saw ROSEMARY’S BABY and MIDNIGHT COWBOY back in the early 70’s here.
Founded by Cecil Houck who had also started the Stockade Auto-Torium in Williamsburg, Virginia.
If you go to the Map, go to Larger and go to Satellite, that big white roofed building is on the site of the Plantation.

Saw some super scary thiller or horror pic there as a kid. I otherwise remember riding by the mansion facade on US-460.
