The Elk River 5 opened its doors by GTI with five screens on June 4, 1988 with the following in screen order: “Crocodile Dundee II”, “Big”, “Funny Farm”, “Rambo III”, and “Beetlejuice”. It later expanded to ten screens in 1997 and then 17 screens in 1999.

The Elk River Theatre is listed as two different projects in the Vanney Associates PDF cited in my previous comment. Apparently Robert Vanney designed both the original theater and the later expansion.

A PDF available from the web site of St.Paul architectural firm Vanney Associates lists 25 theater projects designed by Robert F. Vanney, including a seven-screen multiplex at Elk River. This must have been the addition mentioned by boothboy 18. No date is given for the project.

Originally, this was a five-screen theater. Then they updated to 10 before finally filling the space in the now-defunct Pamida department store that stood next door with the remaining seven theaters. Nice theater, though they do have small auditoriums.
