It is amazing how many theatres are named ROXY in imitation of the once famous name of the New York City panjandrum of the movie palace: Samual Lionel Rothapfel = “Roxy”. His namesake was the famous ROXY THEATRE in NYC, which outlasted him by only 25 years when it was demolished in 1960. The whole story is in that landmark book “The Best Remaining Seats: The Story of the Golden Age of the Movie Palace” by the late Ben M. Hall in 1961. Various editions of it are sometimes available from www.Amazon.com, but only the first edition contains the color plates.

Theater is open and has been doing punk rock concerts on the expanded stage. The area newspaper, The Chronicle (Centralia, Wash.) just did a great story on this theater in their Saturday June 4, 2005 edition. The newspaper site is www.chrononline.com

The Roxy Theater has a new website! www.roxyplayhouse.com They also are showing movies, holding concerts, and starting June 7th, 2006 will do professional, live summer stock theater.

For more info like showtimes and ticket prices visit their website, www.roxyplayhouse.com The theater is located close to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier, so its a great thing to do after a day of sightseeing and touring.

Lost Memory: Your photo is recent enough that “Fracture” is playing. LOVE that this theater is back in business for both films and plays.

The theater was completely gutted and expanded. The interior was completely changed. What was a movie theater only (had no real stage or dressing rooms) now has a full stage and primarily serves as a playhouse with movies taking a backseat.

www.roxyplayhouse.com no longer works.

Seems you have to use www.firemac.org again for their website
