Viking Drive-In

The Hi-Way Movie Drive-In opened on August 13, 1949 with Randolph Scott in “Gunfighters”. In 1952 it was renamed the Powell Valley Drive-In. The name was changed to the Viking Drive-In in 1979. About a year later this drive-in closed.

The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in. The address currently displayed in the heading is a residential area about 1 mile west of the drive-in. It may have been the residence of the manager or owner.

In 1956 someone was calling it the Hiway Movie Drive-in.Parking 200 cars and owned by J.B.Walsh.

It looks like this was originally called the “Hiway Movie Drive-In” as per Mike’s comment. There’s a newspaper ad from 1951 with it under that name.

Actually, the Hi-Way Movie Drive-In opened its gates on August 13, 1949 with Randolph Scott in “Gunfighter” for one day only.
