Weatherford Theatres

The Princess Theatre was opened in the late-1920’s. In the 1980’s it was converted into 4-screens and renamed Weatherford Theatres. It was closed in May 2002 when the new Weatherford Cinema 10 opened in nearby Hudson Oaks.

I was sad to see that this old theatre in downtown Weatherford was closed. The owner moved to a new location and is now part of the “chain gang” of movie theatres across America. Very few independants left. I bought the chairs out of the theatre…. old Irwins and would love to find out where I could buy some cup holders for the chairs. Nothing fancy… the cheap ones will work for what I intend to do. Does anyone know where I can buy some at a good price?

It is a shame that old theatres on the downtown square across America are going by the wayside. The person who bought the old theatre is looking to make it a lawyer’s office building. At least the building will still have a lot of make believe, fiction and stories being told under it’s roof.

I loved this location. Saw several great films here between 2000 & 2002. They had Tuesday $2 movie nights & I saw such classics like ABeautiful Mind,Space Cowboys & The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring. The new location is an overpriced 10 screener that is now part of a chain. I miss this old location.

The Plaza Theatre opened in the late-1920s, and was renamed the Weatherford Theatres in the 1980s. It first had a single-screener, but had four screens in the 1980s.

This closed in mid-May 2002 when the newer Weatherford Cinema 10 opened on 1000 Cinema Drive in neighboring Hudson Oaks at the same time as the Weatherford Theatres 4’s closure. It was demolished in 2021.
