Located just off the main Avenida de Liberdade in the heart of the city centre entertainment area, the Cinema Olympia is across the street from the former Condes Cinema (now a Hard Rock Cafe).
It opened in 1911 and appears to remain intact although currently in a run-down condition, and by 2003 was known to attract a gay male audience (according to a gay guide book).
Inside there is a large foyer (for a cinema of this era) and a rather austere auditorium that has plain wooden backed seats (probably not original, but not far off). Exit doors open straight onto the street.
The Cinema Olympia was closed in 2004.
Any further information on this historic cinema would be appreciated.

Olympia closed last year, and the firm who has been exploring it for something like 40 years, sold the quota to a show-bussiness man, expert in music-hall (actualy, he explores Politeama – the owners are the same of Olympia’s), who started some recovering works, in view to explore Olympia as a repertoire theatre. Unfortunately, costs raised a lot than the expected and he is trying to get some financial support from third parts till now. Olympia is waiting.

The Olympia was directly behind the Condes, not across the street.
