This was the second of three movie theatres in this small river town. It opened in the 1920s in the Britton Brothers building. It closed in the early 1930s with the opening of the Barn Theatre.
Any additional information on this theatre would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks lostmemory – great find. I have eaten in the basement restaruant numerous times and had no idea that the building housed a theatre at one.
Therefore, the proper street address is 10 Bridge Street, home to Cocina del Sol restaurant and the following:
Garbo and Sasha
10 Bridge St * 908-996-7976
Unique clothing, accessories
Pardon My French
10 Bridge St * 908-996-4442
Home decor and accessories
Race Street Kids
10 Bridge St * 908-996-6787
Children’s clothing, toys
I’ll take some photos of the building and post them. Maybe some of the architecture will yield clues as to the precise location of the theater as this building is huge.
Was the Barn Theater in the same building?
No. As you can see from my photos on the Barn posting, the building is totally different than the Gem building and it is located on a different street.
My photos from 12/10/05. The history is shown on this sign, right under my nose all of this time:

This restaurant is in the Gem building. There is a small photo of the building on their site.
