Teatro Variedades Ernesto Alban

Originally opened on April 12, 1914 as the Cine Variedades presenting films and stage acts. This theatre in the center of Quito has a lovely decorative facade and a wrought-iron canopy over the entranceway. It operated as a cinema until 1994 when it was closed and was purchased by the city. It was closed for 20 months while it was converted into live theatre use. As a small live theatre it programmes small stage productions and experimental theatre, and is named after a famous Quito actor.
