Highland Avenue Theatre

A large Knights of Columbus Hall opened in October, 1914 at the corner of Highland Avenue and Central Street. By April, 1916, it was being used as a movie theatre called the Highland Avenue Theatre.

The theatre closed soon after the Central Theatre opened across the street in 1921.

The building still stands today, serving as Anthony’s Function Hall. Unfortunately, it has been stripped of much of its original exterior detail.

(All of this information comes from David Guss’s excellent website, Lost Theatres of Somerville).

Here’s the page for the Central Theatre. It was built kitty-corner from the Highland, and put it out of business.
