The location is right for the Tivoli to have been this project noted in the July 22, 1927, issue of Motion Picture News, although there is nothing Gothic about the building the Tivoli was in:
The Internet provides no other references to an architect named C. C. Cornfeldt, but there are several references to a Toledo artist of that name, so perhaps he was only the decorator of the theater.Nov.1 1956 sees “NORTHWEST PASSAGE” playing.
Yes spectrum, the google maps lists United Steelworkers (USN) at this address. From Chucks 1983 photo looks as if it was a church at that time.
From the Google street view, there is no hint of the building’s current use although it is clearly not boarded up. Some signs on the side indicate this may be currently used as a Union hall.
The earlier comment was from mistaken memory….the theatre near Central and Monroe was the old Colony Theatre, now long gone. The Tivoli is in East Toledo down the street from the original Tony Packo’s restaurant.
Seems to me there was a Tivoli Theatre in Toledo, Ohio, near the intersection of W. Central and Monroe. There was a Big Bear Supermarket nearby. In 1956, I saw “Run For The Sun” at the Tivoli, starring Richard Widmark, Jane Greer, Trevor Howard, and Peter Van Eyck. I see by this site there was a Tivoli Theatre on Consaul St. in east Toledo. Is my memory right – were there two Tivoli Theatres?
Here is another photo from the Toledo Public Library:
